Because of the increasing popularity of our "flatter" rides, we've developed a couple of new tours in the Sacramento Valley area. This new "easy" ride uses the beautiful Beals Point campground at Folsom Lake as your camping headquarters for the weekend. The huge lake is one of the crown jewels of the California water system and was created early in the twentieth century by the construction of the Folsom Lake Dam. The ride makes use of connecting bicycle paths including the Jedediah Smith, American River Parkway, Sacramento Northern Railroad trails and more to make for an entire day of bike friendly miles with no cars.
Theres lots of history and little side trips well be pointing out along the way such as the beautiful and historic trail that parallels part of the old Pony Express route. This is by the CSUS campus that you can get to by crossing the Guy West Bridge, a replica of the Golden Gate Bridge. Well also cross Jims bridge, a favorite spot for salmon viewing and swimming. There also will be places to take a rest from your bicycle and hike through some natural and secluded areas.
If you'd like to do a longer trip, this ride will combine nicely with the Midweek Houseboat Tour that begins on Monday.
